Team Fortress 2 is one of the oldest multiplayer games on Steam. Released 16 years ago as a part of the Orange Box, the game is currently one of the longest-running online shooters in the history of gaming. Naturally, the game had its ups and downs throughout the years, and after 16 years the community has somewhat shrunk, with mostly the die-hard fans sticking around to this day.
However, while the game might not be as popular as it was in its glory days, it still has a sizable community of devout players, competing in online matches and trading weapons and hats. So, why, despite this, there are rumors going around about Team Fortress 2 shutting down in 2023? Here at Skinomat, we’ll answer all of your questions about the near future of the game.
As always, keep in mind, that if you want to sell Steam items for the best deals possible, make sure to visit Skinomat!
Why Are Team Fortress 2 Servers Shutting Down
On October 10th, 2023, a Twitter post with an image was circulating the social media, supposedly from official Valve sources. It was simply a black background with the text:
Thank you for playing! After 16 years of fun, TF2 servers will be shutting down on October 10, 2023.
While many players thought the tweet with the picture was just a rumor and a fabricated image, it was actually confirmed to be true by the game developers. This has obviously stirred quite a panic in social media, because TF2 gamers got a confirmation from an official Valve developer account that the game’s servers will shut down, and they will no longer be able to play. But is it really the truth?
Well, yes and no. In 2023 Team Fortress 2 PlayStation servers will go permanently offline. This means that the owners of the Orange Box PS3 Version will no longer be able to play the game. Only PlayStation 3 players will be affected, however, the misinformation made for a great story for many online media.
